Excellent suggestions. A couple of comments:

First Principles, unless you mean the people doing the flagging.

Flag sufficiently that you can see either the trail or the next flag, from 
the point where you place a flag.

If you absolutely must tear out the flags someone has placed, dispose of 
them properly instead of tossing them on the ground.
